While it is sometimes unavoidable that you may need dental treatment, there are a few steps that you can take to try to prevent this as much as possible. We work with our patients to educate them in the best ways to maintain their teeth and gums at a healthy level. There are two components to a healthy dental routine
Your oral hygiene at home should consist of:
- Brushing your teeth twice a day at morning and at night. When brushing our teeth we should aim to be as gentle as possible, working in a circular motion targeting both the gums and the teeth. A tongue scraper can be used if needed.
- Flossing daily enables you to maintain the areas in between your teeth that are not accessible to the toothbrush. A gentle flossing technique will enable you to have healthy gums. If you notice bleeding, this may be a sign that there is inflammation in the gums and we recommend you contact us.
Your oral hygiene routine at your dentist should consist of:
- Regular check ups
- Contacting us if you have issues with pain, bleeding or broken teeth
- Professional cleaning every 6 months to help maintain your gums
By following these simple steps, most of us will be able to avoid potentially painful and expensive long term dental problems.
